What is next after a Skillshare Class is Published?
What happens after I clicked the publish button on Skillshare?
There are a series of things to be done right after clicking the publish button on Skillshare. But first let me just say that after all the work put in (hours, days and weeks) when the moment comes to hit that button is very special and nerve racking at the same time! For my first class one of my sons was in my sewing room right at the moment that I was going to publish my class so I asked him if he wanted to do it, of course he said YES! So for my second class I called both my twin boys for the grand moment and asked my older twin to push the button and we celebrated together! It will become my tradition to let one of my boys click the publish button and have them with me to share the happiness of a job done and the emotions of a new class sent into the virtual world! Because once the class is published then there is no turn back!
You can edit your class but you can not take the class down from Skillshare.
This is actually what I wrote in my journal that day:
“ I just published another class on Skillshare. My hands are cold and I have butterflies in my tummy” Gosh.
So what happens next:
My hands will warm up!
The butterflies will go away!
I waited to get an email from Skillshare with a unique link. Skillshare says it takes 72 hours to review the class but I started using the link right away.
With this link I went to linktree to add it there so it could show up on my instagram bio.
Then I created a post or maybe had a draft done for an IG post about the class and published the post on my IG page.
Then I went to Facebook to edit my IG post because the same post from IG goes into my FB page but I go there to edit it so I can add the link right there. Facebook lets you add clickable links on posts unlike IG.
Then I made a post on Pinterest. If a pin is done a link can be shared. If you share an idea pin, there is no place where to add a link.
You can even do a post on your personal Facebook. Which I did to share my class with family and friends.
I created a series of stories on IG or FB or both to celebrate launch day.
For me it was also going outside to water my plants hoping my class will grow and bloom too!
I added a Youtube video with the introduction video of the class.
I created a project on Skillshare for my new class so students can see it.
Creating a discussion on Skillshare is a way to get to your followers on Skillshare so they are reminded of your class or any topic you would like to address. You can do this a few days or weeks after the class has been published.
I wrote a newsletter sending the information about the class to my email list.
Advertise the class on memberships if you belong to one or more.
Do a giveaway to promote the class. I have not done this but I have seen other artists doing it.
I sent the link to my friends through Whatsapp or email, who do not have social media.
Boost post on IG by paying for an ad. Ads can cost as little as a few cents a day for any amount of days you decide. An ad can be paused by you at any time.
I also created a tutorial to sell in my Etsy shop about the same topic of my class. In this case I am selling a tutorial to make fabric tulips and it has the patterns included. In the same listing I added a link of my Skillshare class to be copied and pasted so people can access the class easily if they are interested.
A friend told me I could sell the class through my Etsy shop but in order to do this I will need to find a platform where I can put all of my videos. I need to research this more.
And that is all that happens after a class is launched! Lots of little steps but all very necessary. And there might be more that I do not know so if you do please leave me a comment below!
This is fairly new to me, to teach online and on Skillshare so I am learning as I am doing.
It has been fun and I would like to continue teaching how to sew!
Stay tuned for a blog about the why and motivation to create the Tulips class and the Inspiration behind it! My email subscribers have read about it already so if you would like to be the first one to know about a new blog, coupons discount to my Etsy shop, or sewing tips I would be happy to see you in my newsletter!
