The beautiful colors of Peruvian Crafts and Textiles

Every time I explore the local craft market here in Lima I am amazed to see the use of color the way only the Peruvian artisans can do!

When my family and I arrived in Lima in January 2021, there were a lot of restrictions all over the city because of the pandemic. It took me around 4 months to set foot in the Inka Market.  The afternoon I found it I was with my husband and our boys so the trip was very short.  But I knew I wanted to come back to explore it all on my own!

I did it just a few days later and I walked in delight through every little alley filled with small shops that have the most beautiful handmade crafts. Bags, rugs, table runners, socks, scarves, sweaters, the cute stuffed llamas….I can keep on going!! I wanted to buy everything…but I like to go to places like these with a budget in my purse so I do not go overboard!

The vibrant colors really make you smile, and fill you with energy.  As a maker myself I looked at the pieces thinking how beautifully the colors blended, or how perfect the embroidery stitches were.  Peruvian artisans embroider with wool threads, so the designs look raised and with so much texture.

When my mom was visiting me in Lima, we went to the market so many times.  She also fell in love with the handicrafts here.  It was nice to have her company and enjoy all those beautiful crafts together! I have not been back since she left, about a month ago.  But soon we are flying for vacation to the States so a visit to the Inka Market is coming up!! I love to bring a little something to friends and family in the States.

Come visit Peru!!

Inspired by the beauty of the Peruvian textiles I now have these coin purses I designed and made available in my Etsy store!
